THE STAFF AT STELLA MARIS

 

The Stella Maris Centre in Melbourne employs 4 staff members to help keep its centre open every day of the year. We also call upon some local pastors to assist with holding Mass and other special functions.

 
 
 

Rom Kucera - Centre Manager

 
 

Rom Kucera is the Centre Manager and is responsible for the day to day running of the Stella Maris Seafarers' Centre. Rom was previously working in the Victorian Police Force. Rom has been involved as a volunteer for years before taking on the job as Manager in 2000.

Bobby Grech - Ship Visitor

 
 

Ship visiting is a vital part of our work. Our full time Ship Visitor is Bob Grech. Bob visits ships when they berth in Melbourne and speaks to the Seafarers about the Center. He ferries Seafarers to and from the Center as needed. Bob was previously a Local Shoemaker and joined the SMC Team in 2001.

Scott Cook - Ship Liaison Officer

 
 

Scott is our Ship Liaison Officer and is originally from Tasmania where he was actively involved as a volunteer and casual employer of the Flying Angel in Hobart. Scott has been to Russia twice and is keen to visit again. He started work with the Stella Maris in Feb 2006.

John Kewa - Lay Chaplain

 
 

John Kewa has joined our staff and taken on the role as Lay Chaplain since the departure of our Port Chaplain, Father Luis. John comes originally from Papua New Guinea and has been studying at the Melbourne College of Divinity. John speaks Tagalog, and can understand most Pacific Island dialects. John will be a very vauled member of our team.
