The Centre’s 50th year

On 17 February 1973, the new Stella Maris Seafarer’s Centre at 600 Little Collins St, Melbourne was blessed and officially opened during the Eucharistic World Congress. The building replaced an old warehouse on the same site where Stella Maris previously operated from and was the result of the dedication and passion of the then Port Chaplain, Fr Kevin Quinlan.

Staff, volunteers, and current and ex-members gathered together and joined with Archbishop Peter Comensoli DD, Fr Tony Cox SSC, Fr Michael Richardson and Fr John Quinn, who co-celebrated Mass in the Centre Chapel on 19 February 2023 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of this important event.
